The Body Shop – Rainforest Balance Shampoo & Rainforest                          Moisture Hair Butter

You may have already read that I have recently made the move to using natural shampoo and conditioner, following a problem with an itchy scalp (read about thathere). I was interested to find out what other natural shampoos and conditioners were out there, and came across the Rainforest haircare collection from The Body Shop. As this is such an affordable range I thought I would try it out, and none of the Rainforest range contains any silicones, colourants or parabens which can irritate the scalp.

Rainforest Balance Shampoo is for oily hair, so I chose this as I have found that that my hair and scalp have been more oily since I started using natural shampoos as they don’t strip the oil from your hair like regular shampoos. This shampoo contains a number of natural ingredients including pracaxi oil, white nettle and seaweed plus Community Trade sugar and aloe vera. The thick, clear shampoo gives an ok lather on the first application – better than a lot of natural shampoos but not as good as regular shampoos – and lathers well on the second application. It does clean the hair well but I did find that my hair became greasy after a couple of days – something that is common after using natural shampoos.
My bottle of Rainforest Balance Shampoo is the smallest 60ml size which is perfect to keep in an overnight bag for occasional use, but it wouldn’t last long in the bathroom. I would definitely use this shampoo again and will be purchasing a larger bottle soon. The Body Shop also does a matching conditioner in the Rainforest Balance range for oily hair.

Rainforest Moisture Hair Butter is for dry hair, and I received this sample sachet free with my last online order from The Body Shop. This product contains pracaxi oil and manketti nut oil plus Community Trade honey and olive oil. This deep moisturising treatment is a thick, rich hair butter with a nice buttery scent and the full size product comes in a round tub. Rainforest Moisture Hair Butter should be massaged into hair after shampooing, then left for 5 minutes before rinsing out. It leaves hair nicely soft and conditioned and can be used weekly for best results. As I don’t have a problem with dry hair I probably won’t be buying this again but would recommend it if your hair needs a moisture boost every now and again as the results were good.
The Body Shop also offers a shampoo and a conditioner in the Rainforest Moisture range, for dry hair.
Overall I have really enjoyed using these Rainforest haircare products and I would love to see The Body Shop offering more natural products that are free from silicones, parabens, etc. I will definitely be purchasing the shampoo again, and this small bottle will be going into my overnight toiletry bag.
Rainforest Balance Shampoo prices start at £2 for the very small 60ml bottle but larger sizes are available, from The Body Shop. Rainforest Moisture Hair Butter prices start at £3 for 50ml from The Body Shop. The Body Shop often have great discount deals on, so keep an eye on their website and stock up when prices are low!
