Beautiful Movements – Prime & Create Mixing Medium and                             Concealer Powder.

I first came across Beautiful Movements cosmetics when I received a small sample of their Prime & Create Mixing Medium in my May Glossybox. After doing a bit of research on the brand I found that they used to be known as BM Beauty and that one of their co-founders is stunning ex-Pussycat Doll Kimberley Wyatt. Beautiful Movements are a natural cosmetic brand and their products are free from parabens, animal products, synthetic dyes & fragrances, neither are they tested on animals.

Within this post I am reviewing two products – Prime & Create Mixing Medium* and Concealer Powder in shade ‘Be Gone’*.

Prime & Create Mixing Medium is a fairly new product and it has 2 main uses – it can be used as a primer to help make-up stay put, or used as a mixing medium to blend with Beautiful Movements range of mineral make-up powders. It can be mixed with mineral and concealer powders for matte finish maximum coverage, with powder blushers and bronzers to create a cream tint for eyes, lips or cheeks or with eyeshadow pigments to create liquid eyeliners and intense eyeshadow finishes – a true multi-tasking versatile product!

Prime & Create is a clear gel with a slightly silky feel to it and contains aloe vera which is kind to skin and helps to aid healing.

Firstly I tried wearing this product as a primer underneath my foundation, but applied it to half of my face only so that I could compare the results with the other half of my face. Prime & Create applies really easily to skin and only a little is needed, leaving skin feeling lovely and silky before the make-up is applied. However, I’m not too sure that I really saw much benefit when I compared the two sides of my face at the end of the day – both sides looked the same and the foundation still looked fresh and even on both sides. Having said that, I don’t often experience problems with my foundation slipping or wearing off, so it could be that I am lucky enough to have a skin type that doesn’t really benefit from wearing a primer.

Then I tried mixing Prime & Create Mixing Medium with Beautiful Movements Concealer Powder in Be Gone, to create a matte finish concealer. Be Gone is a fairly pale coloured mineral powder with an orangey tone, it shakes out of the tub via a sifter although as the powder is fairly thick I did find this quite difficult as the holes get blocked easily.

Using a small white porcelain saucer and my Bobbi Brown Eye Liner brush I mixed a pea-sized blob of Prime & Create Mixing Medium with a very fine sifting of Concealer Powder, then blended it carefully. It took me quite a while to get the consistency right and to work out how much of each product I needed to use as neither product came with instructions, however after a great deal of blending I was left with a nice creamy concealer paste.

I then used the resulting concealer to cover up some blemishes around my chin, you can see the images below of what my skin looked like before (on the left) and after applying the concealer (right). I did find that the concealer was a little bit powdery once it had dried, but I liked the way you could build it up gradually depending on the amount of coverage needed.

I do feel that the whole process of mixing your own concealer is a bit fiddly and time consuming, and I wonder how many people would actually choose this method over a regular ‘ready to use’ concealer. I’m not sure I would have the patience to mix up this concealer product each time I need to use it, however Beautiful Movements have advised me that the mixed concealer could be stored for up to a week in an airtight pot, so you could potentially mix up the product once a week and then store it.

There are some great benefits to these products though:

• Great for make-up artists or people who want to blend their own colour/consistency of concealer (could use 2 different shades of powder and mix together)
• Contain all-natural ingredients
• Could build up this concealer to be quite thick and therefore cover extensive blemishes, scarring, etc
• Only need a small amount of each product so the pots will last ages

Overall I love the idea of these products, but they are a little bit time consuming. I do love the way that Prime & Create feels on the skin on its own though, so I think I might experiment using it as a serum in order to harness the benefits of the Aloe Vera it contains.
