                        Style Guide: Minor Metallics

Hey ladies! It's Anna again from Fash Boulevard. I've always been drawn to garments that have a little extra shine, and waiting until New Years to embrace a serious metallic moment almost seems cruel. Thankfully, the Fall 2013 runways were glittered with everything from iridescent pieces to metallic brocade prints.
When it comes to styling, I love the challenge of keeping a metallic look from appearing too flashy or over-the-top. The line between elegant chic and futuristic freak can be super thin when wearing glitzy metallic garments. Sticking with traditional everyday pieces, such as shorts or a pencil skirt, is a great way to take your fall wardrobe up a notch. Even just a hint of sheen, like a mani in shades of gold, makes for an exceptional addition and can leave a lasting impression.
Take a peek below to see some of the ways I am styling my favorite metallic pieces this fall…

Metallic Bottoms

A gleaming statement skirt shines best when married with a simple tee or basic top. I prefer skirts or shorts with metallic accents, which provide a subtler nod to the trend while staying equally noteworthy.

1. alice + olivia shorts, $198
2. j.crew capri, $178
3. kate spade skirt, $170.99

Metallic Accessories

Any time I can incorporate a trend into accessories, I instantly become a million times more addicted to said trend. Plus, styling is almost a no brainer with this one. Not only does a gold handbag and pointed pumps go with just about anything, but who doesn't have a few silver and gold accessories laying around?
top - paper crown, undershirt - lc lauren conrad, scarf – target, pants - so via kohl's, boots - pink and pepper
1. sara designs wrap watch, $196
2. tory burch flat, $235
3. cambridge satchel, $155

Metallic Outerwear

blazer - rachel roy, shorts - gianni bini, top - cremieux, heels – spiegel

We spend the majority of winter bundled up in jackets and blazers, which makes outerwear an essential style piece. Instantly take your look to next-level-chic by replacing your neutral outerwear with an eye-catching metallic jacket. The extra layer of fab will give your outfit the perfect shimmering finish.

                     Halloween DIY: Easy Angel Wings

Easy DIY Angel Wings

Hey everyone! Every year I think extensively about the Halloween costume I want to make. This year I was an angel and I made the wings from scratch. I'm pretty happy with how they turned out! Here’s how I did it…

1. I started out with some thrift store knitting needles that I covered in wire and hot glue for the "frame".

2. Then I cut pieces of cardboard and used pieces of wire like twist-ties to sew them together. After that, I took a long sleeved T-shirt, cut off the sleeves, and then eased them over the frames. Then I glued on feathers like crazy…

3. To make them wearable, I sewed elastic sort of like backpack straps!

That's all! Happy Halloween!

Review: Tresemme Platinum Strength Shampoo and

Conditioner

Last week I was fortunate enough to meetup with Chloe and Hayley in the Bullring to finalise some plans for the #brumbloggermeet on the 20th, and after having some munch in Ed's, I decided to pop into Superdrug and Boots on the hunt for the new Tresemme range. Although it was 3 for 2 in Boots, the whole range was better than half price in Superdrug so I picked up a few (all) of the things to try out, and first up is the shampoo and conditioner. In case you haven't seen the advert, I will link it below. This is one of those things where when I first saw it, I burst out laughing to my mother's bewilderment. The notion that washing your hair 5 times with this, and you'll have the beautifully wonderful hair you had 2 years ago, before you all became obsessed with straightening and dyeing your hair a different colour every few weeks, is literally ridiculous. Yet, the blogger in me thought that for the benefit of you lot, I would try it out!

So I have used this set 6 times now since I've bought it, in an attempt to fully gauge it's healing properties and all I can say is...

Bullshit.

My usual hair routine is a double wash and a long condition, so I didn't stray from my usual pattern and continued doing this. Now, as a whole I find it quite difficult to use Tresemme in Birmingham due to the water-type, as I feel it leaves some kind of residue on my hair, and this is no exception. I try not to overwash my hair so that it can try and recuperate from the years of dyeing it's been subjected to, but with this I have to wash my hair at least one more time a week because my roots get oily so much quicker. The one blessing to this residue makes your hair quite soft, which I guess could be good if you wanted nice soft hair for the night.

Since using this, I've found very little different in the quality of the ends of my hair, and if anything they are slightly frizzier than they used to be when I've no tried styling it at all. Sadly, my hair still feels dry and hasn't really shown any signs of improvement. One thing I will give to them though is that the products smell really nice, they're just not really living up to the hype that's surrounding them right now.

I am really disappointed with this duo, but I will be trying out the rest of the range to see if there is any salvation in my £12 investment. These both retail for £4.99 here and here, although I'd try to get it on offer in Superdrug if you can! If you've tried them out please let me know what you think. I will continue to use these as I now have a waste-not-want-not attitude, but I think I'm looking forward to moving on to something else!
